Time Limits
Courses have a one (1) year time limit.
Final Examination
After successfully completing all the homework for a course, the student will take a proctored exam. A Better School of Building Inspection can do the proctoring if the student has a smart phone and a computer. The student can also find their own proctor. In that case, when a student finishes the course, he/she is instructed to email us to ask for the current TREC approved proctor information form and agreement. The student will then identify a local exam proctor by calling the local library or testing center, etc. and find out the name of the person who helps with these types of exams. The student will give the proctor the proctor agreement form. The proctor will sign the agreement and email it to us. We will then send the exam to the proctor. The student then arranges with the proctor to schedule a time to take the exam. The student is instructed to take Government issued photo identification to show the proctor before taking the exam. If a student fails a proctored exam, he/she must take a different version of the exam. If the student fails a proctored examination a second time, the student must retake the course. There is no additional fee for retaking the course. The proctored exams must be successfully completed within 90 days of finishing a course. The course is finished when all of the homework and quizzes have been passed.
Additional Fees
If a student uses a testing center in place of a nearby or local library that does not charge a fee for the proctored exams, he/she will be responsible for the testing center fee.
Half in the Field/Half Online Practicum
If you are purchasing the online half of the practicum, you take full responsibility for finding and compensating the field instructor whom you need to complete the remaining field training of the practicum that we do not provide. You acknowledge that, while we may provide you with some prospective field instructors you might use, you must make your own arrangements for completing the minimum five field inspections (the remaining half of the practicum) required under the rules. You also agree that it is your responsibility for assuring that the instructor you use is qualified under TREC rules to provide the field training portion of the practicum and providing us with the appropriate completed TREC forms to document such. We reserve the right to reject documentation generated by an instructor we find is not qualified under TREC rules.
